3 Steps for 1,000 Twitter Followers

Twitter is an amazing phenomenon that has grown tremendously over the past year. Everybody from Oprah to high school kids seems to be using it. Twitter.com is a growing trend that cannot be ignored and your company better be using it if you want to succeed in the Information Age.

In this post, I have included three steps that I am personally using for various ecommerce projects to succeed on Twitter. I hope you will use them for your company and take advantage of the power of social media.

Step 1. Create a company Twitter account

Here’s how to start a Twitter account the right way specifically for your company.

  • Visit www.Twitter.com
  • For your username, use your company name or something similar
  • Use your company logo as your profile picture
  • Add your company URL in the website field
  • Add a brief bio describing your business. One to two sentences.

2. Streamline the tweeting process

This is the biggest twitter secret of all and almost nobody is doing it. To succeed on twitter you have to be constantly posting and uploading links. I take this one step further and have others do it for me.

Here’s how:

A. Find influencers in your industry already on Twitter

  • Trade associations
  • Big companies

B. RT (Re tweet) all of their tweets

  • Perform search on search.twitter.com
  • Go to advanced search
  • Under the “from” field, add the name of the person you want to RT
  • Grab RSS for the search
  • Note: Only do this for people who’s content your trust

C. Create TwitterFeed.com account

  • Visit www.twitterfeed.com
  • Sync to your twitter account
  • Add search RSS feed
  • Under advanced options add the letters “RT” to the prefix box
  • Update every 30 minutes and update up to 5 tweets at once
  • Select “save”

3. Drive traffic to your own website – Once you start building followers, you’ll have the luxury of driving traffic to your website whenever you want. This comes is handy when you’re promoting a new product or service.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Add your own tweets
  • Offer mini-contests (First 10 to reply get something free)
  • Sync your blog through twitterfeed.com
  • Post links to interesting websites
  • Ask followers to check out your site
  • Ask followers to RT (Re Tweet) your posts

Create a company twitter account. If you have not already done so, create one at www.twitter.com
